What Watershed is All About

The Watershed Journal Literary Group is a grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering local storytellers within the Pennsylvania Wilds region. By providing platforms for writers, photographers, and artists, the group fosters a vibrant literary community that celebrates the unique voices and narratives of Northwestern Pennsylvania.

The Watershed Journal

At the heart of the organization is The Watershed Journal, a quarterly literary magazine that publishes both in print and online. This magazine thoughtfully combines writing and imagery to deliver an immersive experience for readers. What distinguishes it from other literary publications is its commitment to inclusion; the journal defines itself by whom it publishes rather than whom it excludes. It firmly believes that individuals residing in or writing about the Pennsylvania Wilds possess unique stories that deserve to be shared.

The magazine is always accepting submissions from writers of all ages, experiences, and backgrounds with ties to the western Pennsylvania Wilds area. This open submission policy ensures a diverse range of voices and perspectives, enriching the literary tapestry of the region.

Watershed Books and Literary Arts Center

Complementing the journal is Watershed Books, a bookstore and literary arts center located at 269 Main Street in Brookville, Pennsylvania. The store boasts thousands of new and gently-used books across more than 20 genres, including popular fiction, classic literature, poetry, self-help, memoir/biography, nonfiction, multicultural literature, philosophy, and children’s books. Thanks to generous donations, the inventory is regularly updated, offering fresh selections to patrons.

Beyond its extensive book collection, Watershed Books serves as a community hub, featuring a children’s area, a quiet reading room, and meeting spaces equipped with public computers. These facilities provide valuable resources for writers and readers alike, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.

Community Engagement and Events

The Watershed Journal Literary Group actively engages the community through various events and initiatives. From writer’s groups to literary events, the organization provides opportunities for individuals to connect, share their work, and develop their craft. These activities not only enrich the local cultural landscape but also strengthen the bonds among community members who share a passion for storytelling.

By championing local authors and fostering a love for literature, The Watershed Journal Literary Group and Watershed Books play pivotal roles in preserving and promoting the rich storytelling traditions of the Pennsylvania Wilds. Their unwavering dedication ensures that the voices of this unique region continue to be heard and celebrated.
