The Watershed Literary Group has established itself as a vibrant source of creativity within the Pennsylvania Wilds artistic community. Its quarterly Watershed Journal has published over 20 issues since its inception in 2018 and has fostered a tapestry of collaboration through the power of words, art, photographs and imagination.
Their Writers Block Party serves as a vehicle for regional writers to share their work and explore feedback in a collaborative, non-competitive atmosphere that, in turn, cultivates literary exploration and artistic growth within our region.
Watershed Books on Main Street in Brookville is steadily becoming a cornerstone of the community, facilitating a love for literature, supporting regional authors, and serving as an inviting space for book clubs, open mics (including music), author events, workshops, and other literary activities. Moreover, Watershed Books contributes to the local economy and plays an important role in preserving the joy of books for readers of all ages and as a gathering place that promotes a sense of belonging for the community. Consequently, the Brookville Chamber of Commerce awarded the Watershed Literary Group its 2024 President’s Award during its annual banquet last month. Executive Editor, Jessica Weible, and Managing Editor, Sarah Rossey, accepted this prestigious award on behalf of the membership, a fitting public acknowledgement of their strong organizational leadership and durable personal commitment. During their acceptance remarks, they acknowledged the essential role that bookstore volunteers, book donors, workshop participants, special event participants, and financial contributors all played in earning this community award.
On a personal note, The Watershed Literary Group has been a tremendous source of encouragement and support for me and my own work. I appreciate having my writing and photographs included in such a vibrant journal and being able to connect with others with similar interests, an experience that online retailers simply cannot match.
In addition to income generated by the bookstore and from sales of the quarterly Watershed Journal, the Membership Program serves an important source of fiscal sustainability. Please visit the webpage at thewatershedjournal.org/membership to sign up and explore the various membership levels.
Please continue sharing your writing and art with Watershed. In doing so, you enrich not only your own journey, but those of us in the Pennsylvania Wilds who are touched by your unique voice. Your stories matter. Share it with us.
