Behind the Pages: How The Watershed Journal Brings Local Stories to Life

Every three months, a new issue of The Watershed Journal finds its way into the hands of readers across the PA Wilds and beyond. But before the first page is turned, a journey unfolds—one that begins with the voices of our community and ends with a collection of stories, poetry, and art that capture the spirit of our region.

A Community of Storytellers

At The Watershed Journal Literary Group, we believe that everyone has a story to tell. Each quarter, writers from across the PA Wilds submit their poetry, short stories, and essays to be considered for publication. Some are seasoned authors, others are first-time contributors, but all share a deep connection to the landscapes and experiences that shape our region.

Once submissions close, our editorial team carefully reviews each piece, seeking works that resonate with our mission of inclusivity, authenticity, and artistic expression. It’s a process that requires thoughtful reading, passionate discussion, and a deep appreciation for the voices that make our magazine unique.

Pairing Words with Images

One of the things that makes The Watershed Journal stand out is the way we pair written pieces with imagery from our local community. Thanks to talented photographers and artists, we are able to visually enhance each story, making the magazine not just a literary experience, but a visual one as well. The result is a publication that feels as much like an art piece as it does a literary collection—something readers can savor and return to again and again.

More Than a Magazine

Bringing The Watershed Journal to life each quarter is no small task, but it’s one we’re proud to take on. As a nonprofit literary group, we rely on the support of readers, writers, and members who believe in the power of storytelling. Because of you, we can continue offering a space where local voices are heard, where art and literature come together, and where everyone—regardless of experience or background—has the opportunity to be published.

A Sneak Peek at What’s Next

We have just released our 27th issue, a milestone that wouldn’t be possible without this incredible community. Inside, you’ll find stories of resilience, breathtaking photography, and the voices that make the PA Wilds such a rich and inspiring place.

Thank you for being part of The Watershed Journal. Your support keeps this magazine thriving, ensuring that the stories of the PA Wilds continue to be told.

With gratitude,
