Ice by Patricia Thrushart
You strong ones standing tall
Arms uplifted above legs like trunks
Deeply entrenched
With roots dug in to the core—
Beware the gathering of ice
In your hearts
For the weight can become
Such that you cannot bare it
And you’ll topple among the sparks
Of the damage you do to others
On the long, crashing way down.
