Changes by Kirke Wise
The leaves had long since gone
Because the sun couldn’t stay
In the dance across their seasons
Towards a more “wintery” way
The trees were standing patiently
Though the birds were all now gone
Taking a rest from their nests
No longer bathed in their song
Animals were busy scurrying
Preparing for the future’s days
Getting ready to hibernate
In their life’s mysterious ways
But others ventured onward
Coming out in the twilight
Remembering the green of their trees
Throughout the snowy night
Someday they would be back again
The Colorful flowers and trees
With the warm winds of summer
So many birds and bees
And every single night
The creatures did what they could
Reassured by those trees
Still standing as they should
Nature’s hard written rules
All of its ebbs and flows
Life comes to hold on tightly
Then it inevitably goes
All of the plants and animals
Have time in the sunny skies
To admire their beautiful world
Until their own beauty dies
