Spring 2020 Edition Digital Debut April 20
The Spring 2020 Edition is our eighth magazine, marking two years of representing the voices of the western Pennsylvania Wilds. We are honored to have received such a diverse collection of stories, poetry, photography and artwork this quarter and can’t wait for our readers to dive into the new edition.
This is a time when many are homebound and looking for entertainment and connection. We are excited to be publishing works perfect for family reading as well as individual reflection. This edition brought in a wide variety of pieces, both written and visual that will capture imaginations of all kinds.
Ours is an inclusive magazine and we are proud to have once again included every eligible submitter in this collection.
Due to concerns regarding the current coronavirus situation, we have decided to debut this magazine mostly digitally through our website. Access to the digital version will be made available by donation. Our distributors being closed for the time being, we decided the digital version was our best way of reaching as many readers as possible without compromising safety precautions.
Staying Mission-Strong During the Coronavirus
We are committed to uplifting our community during this time of crisis. Our stories, poems and images have amazing power to connect us during this time and we are grateful to our supporters and submitters. Although we are temporarily pausing all physical events, we are getting creative and finding new ways to empower the voices of our region.
Recently, we challenged our Writer’s Block Party group to send us works responding to or distracting from the coronavirus. They responded heartily and sent us stories, essays, poems and videos. This content is available for free on our website as a way to reach out to those who find themselves hungry for entertainment and validation.
We are continuing to work to grow our reach within our region and beyond. Writer’s Block Party is still meeting monthly by online forum and video conference and we hope many will join us again at our next meeting on Wednesday, April 22, from 6-8:30. Our printing cycle is continuing as planned: the submissions period for the Summer 2020 Edition will begin in May. Be looking out for other special submissions opportunities as well!
We have been working behind the scenes to ensure that the digital release of the Spring 2020 Edition reaches as many readers as possible. There is an incredible variety of writers, photographers and artists who choose to make their homes in Appalachia and we are proud to represent the voices of our area.
